    Cool Diablo 2: Resurrected

‘Diablo 2: Resurrected’ Remaster Coming This Year, Built By Former ‘Destiny 2’ Support Studio

    Source: Forbes

With Starcraft and WarCraft both being remastered by Blizzard (with wildly different degrees of success), it should surprise no one that a remaster of Diablo 2 is likely coming. But now according to a new rumor, we may have a name and timeline and even the knowledge of who specifically within Activision is working on it.

The report comes from the French site Actugamer, which does seem to have a pretty reliable insight into Blizzard specifically, previously predicting the announces for Overwatch 2 and Diablo 4, so consider that when hearing this information.
According to Actugamer, the Diablo 2 remaster is being called Diablo 2: Resurrected, which sounds precisely like the kind of name they’d pick for that. It is supposed to be released in the fourth quarter of 2020 in time for the holiday, and it seems unlikely we have any other high-profile Blizzard releases coming then (Activision will of course have a new Call of Duty). Given the popularity of the Diablo franchise, it could prove to be their most successful remaster to date.
However, we all remember the disaster that was the Warcraft 3: Reforged launch, which was one of the most broken, unwelcome releases in recent memory. Hopefully lessons were learned from that mess, and I have hope based on the second part of this rumor, that Vicarious Visions is the one doing the Diablo 2 remaster.

Vicarious Visions is a very old studio that has been under Activision’s wing for awhile. They’ve previously worked on a huge range of projects from Skylanders to Guitar Hero, but with those franchises dead, their role has shifted. My readers probably best know Vicarious Visions as a support studio that Activision tasked with helping Bungie develop Destiny 2 content. They went on to produce pretty stellar stuff with Bungie like the Warmind expansion, and they helped make Destiny 2’s PC port be one of the best in the business. So yes, I definitely believe that they’re a good pick for a potential Diablo 2 remaster, based on their recent work. Destiny fans already miss them.

Why is this coming now? Because Blizzard, as ever, is not exactly being terribly timely with its releases. We know the somewhat odd PvE expansion of Overwatch, called Overwatch 2 despite its questionable credentials as a true sequel, is on the way, but definitely not in time for this holiday.
Diablo 4 is also on the distant horizon, and though we have seen a decent amount of footage from it, it is still likely to be a few years away, so this release would scratch that Diablo itch in the meantime. Given that you can still play original Diablo 2 now and get hopelessly addicted, I have to believe a proper remaster would have the same effect. No word on what the Stone of Jordan economy might be like when it returns.

So, I would lend some weight to this rumor, both because of the source, and because of common sense. I really hope this does make it out for the holiday.

this probably wont happen, or if it does it won't be much like the original. from what's come out recently alot of the master files were corrupted so they'd have to figure out all the loot tables again

They've released system requirements and said it will support mods. Really looking forward to this.

It's not Blizz making it but it's the same guys who did the remakes for Tony Hawk's Pro Skater and Crash Bandicoot both of which they knocked out of the park. What I saw from Blizzconline looked really good so I'm excited.
